Verb to be (in simple past) + main verb in ING ending.
I was sleeping yesterday at 7.00 o'clock in the morning.
Yo estaba dormida ayer a las 7.00 de la mañana.
He was running when the accident happened.
El estaba corriendo cuando ocurrió el accidente.
They were cooking a delicious pasta in the morning.
Ellos estaban cocinando una pasta deliciosa en la mañana.
- was teaching = estaba enseñando
- were playing = estaban / estábamos jugando
- was eating = estaba comiendo
- were dreaming = estaban soñando /estábamos soñando
- was dancing = estaba bailando
